Itineraries and trekking
July 21, 2022
Today we want to take you on a tour of one of the most beautiful experiences you can have in our area: a walk along the trekking route from Castellaro to Linguegleitta.
In fact, staying in one of the apartments of our farmhouse, is not only for enjoying a moment of relaxation away from the city, but it is also an opportunity to discover new places and launch into new adventures.
What we are proposing today is not an adrenaline-filled impossible feat like those in the 007 style, but it is a very exciting activity because it allows you to reconnect with nature.
On this trail you can take your children with you and experience an unforgettable family outing together.
What you will face is a real trek that will take you to discover unique and wonderful places.
To help you enjoy this walk in the middle of nature to the fullest, we want to give you some advice on the equipment to take with you.
Before you leave from your apartment in the farmhouse prepare a nice packed lunch to stuff in your backpack.
We tell you this for two reasons: first, because along the route from Castellaro to Lingueglietta you may not find refreshment places that reflect your tastes, but also because packing a picnic lunch is what really makes a trip truly complete.
Castellaro is about 40 km from our farmhouse, for this reason we have chosen to reach the starting point of the route with our car and park it in the parking lot of the center of the village.
The route from the center of the municipality to Lingueglietta is neither too long nor too challenging.
To do the 10 kilometers separating the two localities, and to return to the car again, it took us about five and a half hours: we left around 10 a.m. from the municipality of Castellaro, managed to finish the whole trekking route around 3:30 p.m.
Traversing the trail is not difficult: in fact, the folders are numbered chronologically and have markings on the individual sections, so it is almost impossible to get lost or take a wrong turn.
In the first 2 km the route is paved and has no particular difficulty: you pass over the a10 highway from which you can see the Castellaro golf course and then arrive above the village of Pompeiana.
Now we want to make your hiking experience even more exciting by revealing a curiosity!
The trail is well-marked because it coincides with two important routes: the Coastal Way of Liguria, i.e. the Ligurian part of the Way from Rome to Santiago de Compostela, and the Liguria Trail, promoted by the Liguria region.
Given the fame of these locations, in addition to bee hives, you may also meet other people with whom to get acquainted and share the outing.
Continuing our journey, we have arrived at the St. Bernard Region, which is part of the municipality of Pompeiana.
Beware, from this point on the road becomes a bit uphill and the route becomes more strenuous but trust me: it is really worth continuing the route to enjoy the wonderful views that, with each step, become more and more beautiful.
One of the points of interest you can find in this part of the trail is for sure there is the small church of St. Bernard, where you can also read an explanatory sign with lots of detailed information about its history.
As you walk along the itinerary, relax and look around being well aware of all the animals and plants you will come across along the way: what you will be resting your steps on is in fact a special conservation area of the municipality of Pompeiana.
Continuing the walk, in fact, about halfway along the path, you can admire what to the eye looks like a kind of artificial cistern with rushes, but is actually from a watering hole created by the municipality of Pompeiana for the protection of the amphibian species that inhabit this area.
The view along this section of the trail is truly spectacular, so much so that you can even make out the hamlet of Poggi above the Prino stream of Imperia.
Once arrived in Lingueglietta, after taking several photos we decide to stop and have a picnic lunch, and then walk down to the fortress church before turning back.
We will not dwell long on the tale of Lingueglietta because we have already recounted this enchanting locality in a previous article that we invite you to read if you would like more information.
Walking backwards along the road, it is possible to admire many views that did not receive our attention during the outward journey; in fact, we are particularly impressed by both the town of Terzorio and the nearby hill (also belonging to the municipal territory) almost sheer to the sea, and full of still active greenhouses, which make it even more precious to an outside gaze.
As we walk along the caruggi leading to Castellaro, we notice the signs toward Taggia, an important junction point for those who would then like to continue the walking route of the Sentiero Liguria and the Coast Path.
Continuing toward the sea, we conclude our trip by filling our eyes with the view of the village's main church and the walkway tower of the old castle in the village of Castellaro.
We give you one last hint: if you sharpen your gaze, looking at the caruggi you can also see the plaque marking the old castle jails.
Now it is your time to experience the adventure: we hope this will be an unforgettable and emotionally rich experience for you, as it was for us.
